New server from

The Guys at have been at it again and this time they have been working on a real powerhouse of a serve.  When I dropped in with the test unit the kettle had not even boiled before they had swiped the box, had it open and were already poking and prodding it with oooo’s and arrrr’s.  Any way after a couple of months of testing they are happy to release them to the world.
dedicated-server-ds6.5-lrg[1]Poundhost  pride ourselves on only ever choosing the best technology for our customers, we are happy to announce that we have a new member of the server family. After a couple of months of testing we have added the New DS 6.5 to the range giving you the opportunity to experience the new generation of Dell Hex core servers.
When it came time to replace our tried and tested R410 dual quad core servers we tested multiple options, trying to get the right mix of performance, reliability & price, in the end The Dell R420 came out on top. Having chosen the Chassis for the servers it came down to choosing the brains of the box, in this case we have gone for the Intel SandyBridge Xeon CPU’s, the E5-2430 Hex Core, Hyper threaded CPU offers the best performance for the price. The new E5 family of processors have larger caches than before as well as a new instruction sets improving the performance, they also feature the Turbo Boost technology increasing the overall speed of the processors.
In partnership with Intel, Dell now have some of the best servers on the market today, with both compute performance as well as power efficiency, that’s one of the main reasons we have gone with Dell for the new top of the line DS 6.5.
You may also have noticed over the past few months Poundhost have been adding SSD options to a lot of their existing systems, with the DS6.5 we have a full set of drive options allowing you to get the massive performance boost from keeping your operating system and hot data on SSDs, while using SATA and SAS for the data that does not need such rapid access or heavy processing.
Housed in Milton Keynes data centre these servers benefit from have dual redundant power supplies and units giving you greater redundancy in the event of power issues, and with as with all Poundhost servers they connect to our fully redundant 40GB fibre network.  The DS 6.5 is also launching with the latest operating systems, all the current Linux distro’s you would expect from Poundhost as well as an optimised installations of the New Microsoft Windows Server 2012.
